Fucking Rolling Stone

Did anyone happen to read the Deadmau5 interview in Rolling Stone's July edition? They did a decent 5 page spread on the Mau5 and the state of EDM and honestly, I was more than disappointed. The story on Joel was basically a 3 page Deadmau5 esque rant on how he sits around and plays Diablo 3 for 8 or 9 hours straight and just rips cigarettes while on tour. He goes on to bitch about cutting his sets short, not having real food to eat, and not 'making a lot of money'...among other things, it was really strange. The article made little to no mention of the Mau5trap label or the artists they have recently signed, and doesn't touch on any other of Deadmau5's creative works.  He throws a couple jabs at some other DJs (David Guetta specifically) "David Guetta has two iPods and a mixer and he just plays tracks – like, 'Here's one with Akon, check it out!'," says Zimmerman. He recently tried to clarify his comments in a Tumblr post saying that to an extent...all DJs are limited with what they can do in a live performance and that the true talent shines in the studio. I would have to agree, and anyone with knowledge of this industry knows what most 'live' sets really consist of. All that aside, somethings are better left unsaid.

The story also goes on to bash some other producers (Steve Angello and Skrillex) on how they also use pre-recorded tracks and limited to no live mixing during sets. In my opinion, RS had some scrub who is completely out of touch with House music culture follow the preverbal non-conformist of EDM around and write a story that I think attempts to illegitmize (is that a real word?)  the music as a credible genre. Using pre recorded tracks or synths is a nature of this business, and should not be used as a way to discredit electronic music or its dedicated architects. The article was written in good taste, but as a fan and a member of the EDM society, I think we have been grossly misrepresented. Unfortunately I cannot find a transcript of the article online to post for you...but if you get a chance pick it up this week. I could be dead wrong about this...so don't shoot me. assholes

The Final Tour

So there have been tons of rumors circulating about whether or not Swedish House Mafia will continue to perform together in the future. Earlier this week Steve Angello, Axwell, and Sebastian Ingrosso announced the first leg of their final tour together. This is a bittersweet day for all SHM fans. These guys really changed the way I listened and felt about house music. Their sound will never be matched or duplicated. All fans of electronic dance music are forever in their debt. While we may never see them together again, you can be sure that all 3 of these guys are going to continue to entertain us with their solo work and other collaborations for years to come. While there are no shows listed for the States yet, hopefully they will conclude this final tour with a couple shows in the US. You can see the full press release below. What a run .

I'm absolutely loving this track right now. Armin is one of the greatest of all time, and this track does not disappoint. This is so far removed from Armin's trance sound, he's really showing his range incorporating an unconventional progressive house style into some of his newer tracks. He opened with this one on the mainstage at EDCNY and from what I heard it was unbelievable. I've got more on AVB to come later on...but for now check this one out...and if you love Armin you can never go wrong with the ASOT pocasts on iTunes.

Sander Van Dorn ft. Mayaeni-Nothing Inside

I love this track by Sander. I think he's one of the most under rated producers out there right now. This is an epic progressive house track. Turn this one all the way up and let the hook rip you apart. Nothing inside.

Energy Transfer to Buy Sunoco for 5.3 Billion

Earlier today Energy Transfer Partners (ETP), one of the world's largest energy distributor's agreed on buyout terms with the oil giant Sunoco. The 5.3 billion dollar buyout will Award Energy Transfer Partners control of all storage, transportation, and distribution assets owned by Sunoco. The Philadelphia based Sunoco will add another major dimension to ETP's already vastly expanding oil distribution in the US which includes control of storage and distribution facilities in several southern states and pipeline infrastructure spanning from Arizona to West Virginia. Energy Transfer's buyout of Sunoco comes on the heels of its 2011 purchase of the Southern Union pipeline which connects several major shale gas points across the US.

Sunoco shareholders can expect several offers from Energy Transfer; however the primary deal seems to be based around an offering of $25 dollars in cash and 0.52 shares of Energy Transfer per every 1 share of Sunoco. The total value is about $50.13 a share, almost 30% higher than Sunoco's most recent closing price. You can expect this deal to be done before the end of the 2012 fiscal year. The share offer is still awaiting federal board and shareholder approval.

The deal has been brokered primarily by Wells Fargo (WFC) on the Energy Transfer side and Credit Suisse (CS) on the Sunoco side. Keep an eye on all four players over the next several months as this deal gets finalized. Sunoco shares are up already this afternoon about 7.90, roughly 19.26%. Once the deal becomes final, Sunoco shareholders should enjoy humble earnings from this deal.

Summer Shades

Sunglasses are the most important summer accessory bar none. If you're a beach goer, you've got your suit, and you've got your shades..so you gotta make sure you're doing it right. The Frogskin collection by Oakley is my summer sunglass pick right now. While the spring release Frogskins offered a great selection of color combos, the summer line is focused around the Acid Tortoise collection. It's less of a color blast and more of a subtle match with the camo style finish on the frames.
